BSc (Hons) Health & Social Care

At GST, the BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care with Foundation Year is delivered in a warm, friendly, and supportive environment. Students work towards a respected degree while benefiting from smaller class sizes, a personalised approach, and dedicated student support. Teaching methods include activities, exercises, quizzes, and formative assessments to help students stay on track with learning outcomes and assessment expectations.

From the very start of the foundation year, students are taught by approachable lecturers who take the time to get to know each individual. Wherever possible, teaching takes place in smaller groups, ensuring greater direct contact with tutors and more opportunities to ask questions and engage in discussion. Learning goes beyond passive listening students engage through activities, case studies, group work, and regular check-ins designed to support progress and build confidence.

One-to-one support is available throughout the course for assignments and assessments. Module tutorials, workshops, and assignment unpacking sessions provide clear guidance on expectations and marking criteria. Study skills classes, peer study groups, and a variety of assessment formats including essays, presentations, and reflective tasks recognise that everyone learns differently, helping students develop the academic skills needed for higher-level study.

Students at GST have access to extensive library resources and a wide range of online learning materials, along with specialist study skills and academic support. Where a specific learning need is identified, additional support and reasonable adjustments can be arranged to ensure full and confident participation in studies.

Student wellbeing is considered just as important as academic achievement. GST offers a range of support services, including one-to-one advice and guidance, mental health and wellbeing support, financial aid information, and self-care resources to help students balance their studies with personal life.

Above all, GST is a welcoming place to learn guided by values of respect, inclusion, and collaboration. Students are encouraged to share ideas, engage in debate, and reflect on real-world health and social care practice in a safe and supportive environment where every voice and lived experience is genuinely valued.
